The Inbetweeners Movie Review

Going into this movie I was a little concerned about what happened with The Simpsons Movie.  Which was good however you just felt that they run out of material and forced the upgrade from a TV Series to a Movie.  That being said however you will not be disappointed you kind of felt that it dragged its heels a bit in places just to pad itself out.  Not that it really damaged the movie.

While watching this movie, it will take you through a journey as you see the transition between relationship changes and realising what the priorities in life are, with that in mind though it brings laughter after laughter and you can’t say a bad word about the acting and material, because it had me in stitches multiple times.

In conclusion this is one of the best movies I have seen this year and ok it’s not serious but its a great extension on the series the more worrying bit for me is that it does seem a fitting ending to the show.  So if they do end the TV Show now its a fitting end.  I will give this an 8/10 I really enjoyed the movie and would say its a must see but I don’t think this could be to everyone’s taste.

Captain America: The First Avenger Review

World War 2 propaganda and mockery eat your heart out.  While that kind of sums up this movie in one sentence in some respects, that being said don’t write it off just yet.  Now I must admit I am not the type of person that reads comic books so when I see these movies I see them as movies and not what was written down on the comic strip so I can’t really compare it to that.

The opening statement I made is true however it can be a little harsh because although this movie is based on a person wanting to become a solider in World War 2 and server is country the movie quickly moves away from World War 2 and becomes Good vs Evil, which in my view was a good thing because it took itself away from a real historical event into the land of fantasy set in our world.

Overall I really enjoyed this movie it is something that you could see with near enough anyone and it would bring laughed and satisfy most people’s needs for a movie.  The action scenes I thought was good along with the acting, that being said though I felt that Hugo Weaving was probably the let down of the cast.  The reason for this I felt he just didn’t fit the role and consequently made the villain slightly weaker in the movie.  That being said though this movie is a definite go and see.  I really enjoyed it and thus give it 8/10

Horrible Bosses Review

Jennifer Aniston in a completely different role to what we are used to seeing her in and my god did she play it well.  Ok with that out the way because she does play a very flirtatious role in this movie.  I must admit for considering how many stars are in this movie I hadn’t heard much about it to so was going into the movie not expecting much and was pleasantly surprised.

I will say one thing though before I go into the review too much and that you need to go and look at the movie for what it is, you can’t really look underneath the surface too much otherwise you fill find flaws in the storyline and scenes so please don’t take this movie too seriously.

First of all the storyline is quite a simple concept and it was very effective I think for the type of movie they were aiming for, I believe it was meant to be light-hearted and suppose to be one of these movies that everyone can relate to as you have some weird individuals in this movie without trying to give too much away.  The acting was pretty solid for the material and as a guy it is always good to see Jennifer Aniston wearing hardly anything when watching a movie.  The three lead roles were extremely well-played with great chemistry for this movie.

The storyline although a great concept and on the surface great I felt that it lacked detail in some places and left you thinking well that wouldn’t happen and surely they could have worked that out, but like stated above definitely should be taken tongue in cheek.

In conclusion this is definitely one to see if you want some light comedy I’d give it 7/10

Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2 Review

This movie wasn’t a let down but it wasn’t as good as it could have been.  It was a good ending to the series of movies and the story but because it was done in parts I kind of lost the plot in the beginning as I couldn’t remember where we had got to.  The problem that I had also with the movie was it didn’t seem to hold the suspense like some of the older ones, the tension wasn’t quite there when it came to the final battle scenes.

Now I must confess I haven’t read the books so I don’t know what material they had to work on but you would have thought that if they thought the book was too big to fit into one movie then you had enough material to build up the suspense a bit more than what they did.  that being said though it is a good movie just and a fitting end to the story, I think it will mean more if you were to get the box set and watch all the movies in one go.

If your going to watch the movie at the cinema I would advice not going to see it 3D as the 3D effects aren’t the best and you will not be missing out on much by seeing the 2D version that being said though the acting was pretty good and I have to say I enjoyed it as I strangely enjoyed the series.  I’d give this movie a 7/10

Hitman Movie Review

Finally got around to writing this review been a tad bit off the pace the last couple of days.  I have to say I thought this movie was ok at best, it had all the components to be a great movie but it just seem to lack something.  Which generally what happens when you turn video games into movies.

That being said if you like movies where the hunter becomes the hunted than this is the movie for you, the acting isn’t all that bad considering the script they have been given.  The major problem I had with the movie is you could see what was going to happen in the first 10 minutes it just seem to lack depth.

As all movies like this have, you see the love story unfold between two very unlikely characters.  Although this isn’t a positive review I have to say that it could be worth watch on a crap movie night or something because it has enough blood and gor to keep you going.  I wouldn’t completely write this movie off I’d give it about a 4/10 which in my mind is a see once just to say you have really.

Transformers Dark Side of the Moon Review

The latest in the Transformers movie series and I have to say if you liked the first two you will not be disappointed with this one.  It is a typical Michael Bay movie with great special effects although I must admit I didn’t see the 3D version.  The problem I had with the movie I felt that there were too many clichés.  The Autobot would always come around the corner at the right time, and I felt that some of the scenes he could have been there from the beginning because one minute they were altogether and the next minute they were a part with no reason for them to be, or link to show them splitting up.

The only other flaw in the movie I thought was the scene where the Autobots get captured and I felt that this was a little unrealistic due to the fact that you see one Autobot slice up loads of Deceptcons in a later scene.  Which I felt was a bit of a buzz kill on that scene due to the fact you saw they could fight loads at a time and there they were trapped 5 on 3 I think it was which was a bit of let down.

As for the acting for what is was the acting was pretty good, and I was a bit disappointed coming into the movie that Megan Fox was no longer in it.  However the chemistry between the two leads was so much better and it gave the storyline a bit more depth although it was exploited that much.

Overall I thought this movie was good for what it was and that it could have been developed a bit more.  That being said though it still gets a 9/10 so get yourself to your local cinema and see it you will not be disappointed.

Sleepers Review

This is a 1996 movie that is staring Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro and Kevin Bacon as the lead rules and although I didn’t know the background behind this movie when picking it you soon got the feeling from the movie that it was based on a true story.  However that is where the controversy lies.

The movie itself starts off with a group of boys that are bought up in the rough part of New York City “Hell Kitchen” where they have a unfortunite accident and end up being put into a correction facility.  Where they are subject to abuse, only to develop into completely different people.  In this case two of which end up taking a life of crime and the other two making a life in journalism and law, the two criminals stumble on a guard one night that looked after them and they go to seek revenge.

While watching this movie you can’t help but feel that it is really quite good and it has to be said it’s not the best performances by De Niro or Brad Pitt however the stars of the movie are the lead children they really do make the movie come alive.

The controversy with this movie is that it is based on a book and the author says that it is based on what happened to him and his friends, however the there is no record of the court cases from happening.  Regardless of these issues I think this movie is well worth a watch it kept me engrossed from beginning to end.

I give this movie a 8/10

Let me know what you think if you’ve seen it. Do you think it’s based on really events?

Black Swan Movie Review

While I have to admit this isn’t really my type of film and for the first half I didn’t really get what was going on it wasn’t really building anything up in my opinion because it seemed to running aimlessly.  That being said I don’t think the movie would work without.  Just felt like I was getting lost and confused where the plot was going as from the outside it became obviously that this girl was just obsessing over being in Swan Lake.

Half way through however when she really starts to lose control and you start to see the mental stability of the girl it starts to become more gripping and a little bit more interesting.

I don’t want to write a long piece on this movie as it isn’t my type of movie, I felt the acting was really good for what they had to work with.  This will destroy it but the movie it reminded me of was Fight Club just because you saw the same sort of problem shown in that movie except for very different reasons.  I felt the movie was a really insight to how pressure can get to performers and people who obsess over things and feel like they have so much pressure on their shoulders.

Would I say its a must watch? No definitely not and I wouldn’t recommend watching it if your already depressed because it could be a distressing movie for some people.

I would be very interested what you thought of the movie and its subject matter.

Green Lantern Review

After reading around the net at reviews I wasn’t sure about this film as it doesn’t really paint it in a good light, but after going to see it I think it very much depends on what you want from the film.  After watching this film I felt I enjoyed it and that it was quite good but I could also understand where others on the net were coming from because they seemed to be more into the comic book hero thing, where as I was just sitting in front of the film as some one to watch it not compare it to others.

The film starts out with a full of himself pilot played by Ryan Reynolds that you soon realise that it’s not really the case he is hiding behind a bravado.  As the film goes on you see him develop the idea that anyone has the power to do anything as long as they don’t carry around the fear and disappointment.  As the source of his super powers is the source of will.  All of the characters seemed well placed and thought the acting was pretty good however Reynolds in this rule wasn’t as good as he has been in other films, but this could be to do with nature of the rule.

The only floor I found with the film is that one of the characters seemed to have a pivotal role in the film however you could also say that the time he spends in the film just to get killed by something that has given him his powers is some what of a waste, as he isn’t beaten by the super hero.  That being said you could turn it around another way and that it is an interesting twist as we know that we are expecting the super hero to kill all.

In conclusion I think this movie is well worth watching as long as you aren’t there to pick a part as a comic book movie.  I give it a 8/10

WordPress Jetpack Review

As you know I have a self hosted WordPress blog which suites me down to the ground being the fact that I like to change things and also have full control over my content rather than having to adhere to terms and conditions.  That being said though WordPress hosted blogs come with so many features out of the box that its self hosted installation doesn’t and when I saw Jetpack there was the answers to my problems.

While it’s a bit of an exaggeration because you can achieve the same results by installing a number of plugins but who really wants to do that if you can get away with installing one.

The features that come with this plugin are:

  • Simple, concise stats with no additional load on your server. Previously provided by WordPress.com Stats.
  • The WP.me URL shortener.
  • Hovercard popups for your commenters via Gravatar.
  • Easily embedded media from popular sites like YouTube, Digg, and Vimeo.
  • For the Math geeks, a simple way to include beautiful mathematical expressions on your site.
  • A widget for displaying recent tweets. Previously provided by Wickett Twitter Widget
  • Your readers can easily share your posts via email or their favorite social networks. Previously provided by the Sharedaddy WordPress plugin.
  • Your writing will improve thanks to After the Deadline, an artificial intelligence based spell, style, and grammar checker. Previously provided by the After the Deadline WordPress plugin.
  • and many more to come!

Now I must admit I installed it just to try it rather than really wanting to use it as I thought if it holds the features WordPress.com uses there must be something in there and after about a month of using it, it has been great.  The stats are no longer complicated and too much information to bother checking, as my previous plugin for that gave me details about every single user and I wasn’t really interested in that I was more interested in how they got to my blog and what articles interested them.  I can’t say I was that worried about what screen resolution they were using and operating system although very interesting facts.

The other feature that really sticks out for me is the proof reading, I know my written communication isn’t the best and that I have really enjoyed using Windows Live Writer but this jetpack gives better spelling and grammar checking than its offline counter part, so for that very reason it has got me back using the backend of my WordPress blog to produce content.

What I will say about this plugin its nothing exciting however what it does offer it is very good at and in my opinion it is a must have for any blog.

Any plugins that you really like or recommend let me know in a comment.
