Red Faced brings some unwanted terror to National City. Supergirl is flying around higher and further than the DEO would like as she gets a call from Alex asking why she is out there and to which she replies to clear my head. As this happens Supergirl hears a disagreement between two drivers, so races to stop them. While stopping the cars before they hit some children that are crossing the road, she totals the cars and one of the drivers were not happy and goes to punch her.
Supergirl’s reaction to the driver that tries to punch her ends up scaring the children she had just saved and brought her flaws to the forefront. Henshaw after that displaying that Supergirl gave to the world started to question whether Supergirl really has the discipline for the job and once she cools down Kara herself starts to realise where she went wrong. The anger issues that Kara was facing as Supergirl spilled out into work and her “Normal Life” where she rants back at Cat when she is having a go at her because of the influence of Cat’s mother. This shocked Cat and the viewer could see the shock, but it added even more respect to the relationship. Cat and Kara seem to be getting closer together even after the events of How Does She Do It when Kara lost Cat’s son Carter.
Lucy Lane with the introduction of General Lane her father adds another dimension to the character, as a non-comic reader the thought was Lucy worked with James at the daily planet, but it turns out she works for someone else. General Lane brings not only his presence to the episode but the threat of a Robot that Supergirl is asked to fight to test on whether they could use it to protect the world. General Lane doesn’t seem to like Superman or Supergirl. The problem then becomes when Supergirl’s anger issues are taken out on the robot and it goes into self-protection mode and disappears into the city.
Red Faced has the right balance of action and drama, with the fight scenes between Supergirl and the Robot really well done. The drama, however, was also really well done because the characters are developing well with the addition of General Lane the love triangle seems to be going in the favour of Lucy but then James and Kara have some deep moments just keeping her in the running. Winn also is the key to finding out what happened to the Alex’s father, but the question becomes will he risk doing something illegal?
A Stray Howl continues the fast pace of Pilot which is strange because you’d think that it would slow up just a little for everyone to get their bearings. The next tattoo to be deciphered points towards and Air Force Pilot with a difficult past and the visit from the team starts off a huge change of events that could put the whole of the city at risk.
Jane Doe, however, is struggling herself with the one memory she has she struggling with her own moral compass. The memory that she had about target practise in the wood is coupled with another memory that is less than ideal for her. She was concerned that the target practise one on in the Pilot was in an unorthodox place meaning that it was official and with the new flashback she worries she doesn’t want to know her past and a clean start might be for the best.
The real urgency of the episode, however, is the fact that the Colonel is holding out information to the FBI as its top secret. When it comes to light that there is a drone program so that there are drones flying over the US and the Air Force Pilot has control of them and someone’s daughter the team goes into overdrive. Slowly unlocking the targets of the Air Force Pilots revenge.
Jane isn’t the only one that seems to be haunted by her past Weller notices something on Jane that makes him think that he knows who she is. Weller then changes his attitude towards as he knows conflict my trigger memories he wants to take her everywhere to try and get her memory back and also to keep her safe. This thing in Weller’s past seems to drive him and that he is pinning all his hopes on Jane Doe will she be the right person and what is it?
A Stray Howl is a very well-paced episode with the right mix of drama and action. The drama slows down the episode but leads to some interesting facts about Weller’s and Jane’s possible pasts and what drives him. As well as showing a softer side of this uptight agent.
AKA The Sandwich Saved Me continues from the shock that was given in AKA 99 Friends where Jessica found out that one of the people she kind of trusted Malcolm the junkie down the corridor from her office/apartment is the one that is giving Killgrave the photos of her.
Jessica then starts to notice the patterns in Malcolm’s behaviour and sets about following him in order to locate Killgrave. The patterns then become so regular that she then goes to Trish with the information, the establish that Malcolm has only been a junkie for 6 months and that has a strong link to Killgrave. The episode also does a very good job of controlling flashbacks and the viewer gets more of an insight into Jessica and it dawns her the turning point of it all.
Trish in the other side is getting over the experiences she has experienced with Killgrave. Actually getting really close to the guy that almost killed her Will Simpson, he had been under the control of Killgrave and tried to kill her in AKA 99 Friends and having some real issue with trusting him again they work through it and actually get to know each other and support each other. So when Jessica goes banging on Trish’s door because she isn’t answering her phone because she is busy needing Trish’s help going after Killgrave. Will is there and offers to help, Jessica was not really wanting his help but after a really awkward conversation she concedes that he could help. This does give for an interesting dynamic because Jessica is used to doing things her own way and so is he. Trish being the one that keeps them together and although the operation was successful they come up against a problem, they had not seen coming.
Even though Malcolm had been helping Killgrave for some reason Jessica won’t let him lose and continues to try and help him with his addiction. Jessica seems to believe in him, along with needing him to pull through for personal reasons that leads to Killgrave giving her an interesting ultimatum that does put an even more interesting spin on the story so far.
Hope reappears needing help from Jessica, she wants money as the prison life seems to be getting to her. The little reminder why Jessica needs Killgrave alive and also plays out that Hope might be losing hope in Jessica and the outcome.
AKA The Sandwich Saved Me was a really good episode because it opened up Jessica’s backstory a little more and also adds more dynamic to the story. Showing that even superheroes miss the small details and Killgrave seems to be ever evolving with the addition of the ultimatum that is given at the end of the episode.
AKA 99 Friends starts off very paranoid after the revelations in AKA It’s Called Whiskey that Killgrave has Jessica under surveillance and Jessica has no clue who’s doing it. She goes over the photo’s and is relieved that Luke isn’t in them and has an interesting switch in feeling that now she is the one of the receiving end of someone spying on her.
This mood doesn’t just stop with Jessica either Trish no longer trusts anyone and has the cops back at her apartment wanting to get back in. Not sure whether they are under the influence of Killgrave she doesn’t let them in and phones Jessica she quickly establishes the cop isn’t a danger. He is trying to understand what is going on and Jessica takes the risk of telling him the truth. Guilt-ridden he goes through the episode not necessarily doing the right thing for his job but he will do anything to catch or help catch Killgrave.
After having Trish in the firing line, it is decided that she should use her next show in order to apologize as Jessica thinks that this will get Trish off Killgraves hitlist. The show also adds an extra problem this time for Jeri because now she has a waiting room full of people saying that they were under the control of Killgrave when they committed their crimes. Jeri doesn’t want to deal with them but Jessica forces her to go through them and they do weed out the fakes from the real victims and seemingly start their own support group. The case that is presented Jessica also raises some issues because Jessica is concerned that they were sent by Killgrave and doesn’t really want to take the case.
Jessica reluctantly takes the case and instead of following the cheating husband she goes after the wife. Jessica is trying to establish whether or not it is safe to take the case and when she does do the investigation that she was hired for it, it does have an interesting twist. It isn’t Killgrave and but her husband isn’t cheating either there is another motive.
AKA 99 Friends was a solid episode, but it did have some problems. It was missing Luke and Hope which have been a huge part of the season so far and to have them completely missing just didn’t feel quite right. Luke was mentioned, but having had Jessica and Luke get so close in AKA 99 It’s Called Whiskey. Trish and The Cop development along with the support group, however, was a good direction and it does have a very good cliffhanger ending.
Blindspot is one of the latest thrillers to come out the US. The opening scene is in Times Square New York where a Police Officer notices a bag that has been left and wondering who’s bag it is he is asking people rushing past it. The bag has a label on it and says for the FBI with the square now secured it seems like the bomb disposal unit is called as they still don’t know what the content of the bag is.
The Bomb disposal agent gets up close to the bag only to find that something is moving inside it and as he nervously undoes the bag it turns out to be a woman that is completely naked and covered in tattoos. In custody, it becomes very clear that the woman doesn’t know her identity and for some reason has an FBI agent’s name tattooed on her back Kurt Weller. Confused to why she has his name on her back and not recognising the women Weller takes over the case and they establish that she is telling the truth she doesn’t remember anything as they find a new drug in her system that used to treat PTS and rape victims. The drug is only designed to be used in very small quantities in order to help the victims forget what troubles them but Jane has way more than a trace of the drug in her system.
After a full body examination, they start to piece together the tattoos and find that they are clues to either her identity or crimes that are being committed. Although Jane can’t remember anything of her history it doesn’t impair anything else so as they are examining one of the tattoos she translates it to a place and time. They have four hours to get there and establish what the threat is, Kurt doesn’t want to take Jane with him but Bethany Mayfair his commanding officer says that Jane goes as it could help.
As Jane is now on in the field and translating for Kurt the rest of the team at the office has found out that part of a square in the tattoos was actually one originally and that has she had a Navy Seal tattoo. Confused as her prints weren’t on the database but as she gets into a conflict with someone in the field it becomes apparent that she isn’t a normal person she has a set skill set.
Blindspot Pilot shows promise it’s fast paced with an air of mystery about it. The acting by Jaimie Alexander as Jane Doe is really well done as it feels like she really doesn’t know who she is.
AKA It’s Called Whiskey carries on from where AKA Crush Syndrome left off and as Luke had revealed his abilities to Jessica they start to get to know each other better. As they try to understand each others powers and, however, they can push them Jessica does seem to be holding back the fact that there are more like them but with different abilities when asked.
A bit more upbeat but also haunted by flashbacks Jessica goes back to her office after picking up a bottle of whiskey and reviews Hope’s case so far. Outraged by the way the media is treating her and the way it looks like Jeri is isn’t doing anything to protect her she goes storming into Jeri’s office demanding that she does more to stop the media treating hope like this. Jeri says that she isn’t going to get involved with the media as it could damage the case. Trish, however, is happy to interview Hope and Jessica isn’t really happy about it because it could bring unwanted attention. Trish explains that she will go easy on her and try and make it look better, once it’s done however it puts Trish right in the firing line and turns out that it was Jeri’s idea along.
Realising that Killgrave is getting closer and that Jessica isn’t going to be able to just beat him with her strength she needs to find another way. Something comes to light however that she could use surgical anesthetic in order to stop him from being able to use his powers. The reason for this even though Killgrave still can hold power over people when asleep the anesthetic shuts off different parts of the brain which would mean he wouldn’t be able to. Having found out, this Jessica is on a mission to try and get her hands on it but it seems quite difficult to get.
AKA It’s Called Whiskey was a well-balanced episode for a change, the beginning seems quite light and happier although still troubled. Then as the story developed it started to become darker. The action scenes were really well done and when needed there was a real sense of urgency and left the viewer wondering whether Jessica was going to make it.
Evidence of Things Not Seen carries on from The Past is Parent with the surprise of having Morland Holmes actually talking to his son and wanting to help him adds another dynamic. Sherlock this season so far as become a softer more caring character which adds something different although he doesn’t trust his father and seemingly doesn’t want his father’s help he does leave the decision up to Joan as well.
Sherlock tells Joan that his father has offered to make their problems go away and help them get their jobs back in the NYPD of which to begin with Sherlock doesn’t agree with and Joan does. Sherlock does make Joan away that everything with his father does come at a cost and that she should go and meet him herself in order to make a properly informed decision on whether they as a team should take up the offer.
Meanwhile before Sherlock has this discussion with Joan she manages to secure them some consultancy work with the FBI. The problem comes while they are used to free roam to do whatever they want in the NYPD they have to stick with an agent and it ends up being very restricted. The case itself is a lab that was doing brainwashing experiments and the scientists in the lab had been shot and murdered. This investigation is really well done even on the limited framework that Sherlock and Joan have to work with. Sherlock finds the smallest of clues and shows the huge holes in what the investigating of the other investigator. This case does, however, reignite the flame that Sherlock does need the NYPD and that although it’s not a complete factor on why he had been clean for so long it is a big part of it. He is all for asking his father to get them reinstated but after research will Joan be?
Evidence of Things Not Seen is a good episode and sets the tone for this season, Morland seems very intriguing and adds another dynamic to the show. What does seem to be a running theme at the moment is that the cases are just subplot as opposed to being the focus. It is the personal side of it all that really holds the intrigue, even though the cases have had twist and turns.
How Does She Do It starts quite fast paced and a little out of sync with the bombshell that was dropped at the end of Limewire. Kara is rushing around the city and all of a sudden she is being followed by a drone and takes it back to the DEO only to be told it’s not one of theirs. Kara doesn’t really trust Henshaw but Alex does, and that is settle but after the fact they found out their father worked for him should really ask more questions.
Cat Grant wins an award that she has never won up until this point being second fiddle to Lois Lane, but she isn’t able to go because she has no one to look after her son Carter. Lucy Lane being back in two Kara offers to look after Carter and finding out he is in love with Supergirl seems to cheer her up. However when the city becomes under fire with bombs and Supergirl has to juggle looking after Carter and saving the city it could become too much. Carter ends up in harm’s way because he wants to meet Supergirl not knowing that he has been next to her for the whole time.
Kara also in trying not get into the friends zone with James Olsen who is struggling with taking over from Cat as she away ends up having to listen to both sides of the story. What will her advice be and will it end up putting Lucy and James together as it seems a like a love triangle that could either way. Max Lord seems to be the target of the bombs and they have to piece together who is really at fault.
How Does She Do It really does open up the characters a little more, because although the bomb threats were really but the way Kara has to deal with people’s personal problems and looking after Cat’s son the viewer sees a different side to them all. The questions over Henshaw was put on a back burner yet there were subtle reminders there is something not right about him.
AKA Crush Syndrome continues on from AKA Ladies Night, Jessica finds herself in an interrogation room as the Police try to find the in and outs of the murders that happened in the elevator. An open and shut case really because there was no escaping that all the physical evidence points that Hope did it, but Jessica is determined to prove her innocents.
Jessica, however, comes up with some problems during the interview because some other case files are discovered by the Police and they want to know about it. Jessica’s reaction was that they shouldn’t have them because they didn’t have a warrant and that answer to this was her office was actually a crime scene so it wasn’t needed. The files they found was the photo’s that they had on Luke Cage the bartender she had one of the most awkwardest sex scene ever seen in AKA Ladies. Luke had been having an affair with married women not that he was aware of it because she had been removing her ring so when the police came knocking about the files in Jessica’s office Jessica came clean and turns out that the husband goes after Luke. Will Jessica help him?
Jessica wanting Jeri Hogarth to represent Hope as she seems to be the best lawyer in town is refused because Jeri only takes on cases that are not a straight up loss. Jessica reveals that Hope was controlled by someone and that she knows because she was, however, that wasn’t enough for her, but she tells Jessica that if she gets some more evidence that this guy exists then she will represent Hope. Jessica starts her search by going back to the scene of an accident and piecing together which hospital he would have gone to and then trying to find his records of which she can’t find any however she does find something abnormal.
AKA Crush Syndrome really does throw this world wide open. Jessica finds out some interesting facts about some of the other main characters and the show continues to drip feed the viewer little snippets of information about the characters. The stand out dynamic this episode was Jessica and Trish. Here is someone that doesn’t seem to make friends easily and now is actively pushing people away because of the threat of her past and yet there seems to be something there between Trish and Jessica. The episode the viewer now has a name for the threat from the past and that is Killgrave. Krysten Ritter continues to impress with how well she fits the role.
Gorilla Warfare brings back Grodd and as Barry is somewhat injured from his battle with Zoom in Enter Zoom last week it’s up to the team to step up and help him overcome his demons.
Zoom had dragged Barry across Central City and shown the world how weak he is compared to Zoom, which in turn had some really bad consequences, at the end of Enter Zoom Barry was unable to feel his legs. This was quickly addressed in Gorilla Warfare and luckily for Barry he was able to recover quite quickly from what is essentially a broken back but still was yet to use his speed. The problem as it turns out was in Barry’s head, he couldn’t believe that he was able to save Central City this time and felt like he had let everyone down. The truth was he hadn’t let anyone down and he just needed to see that.
Meanwhile however well Barry is sat in a wheelchair at Star Labs angry that he doesn’t have his speed, Caitlin gets kidnapped by Grodd who believes he is Harrison Well’s son and has a soft spot for Caitlin, however, needs her to do something for him. The problem is Grodd wants her to make more like him because he feels lonely and realistically Caitlin can’t and won’t make more of them because they are a danger to everyone especially if there is more of them. Iris goes and gets another character back from the past in order to try and help Barry through this hard time.
Cisco, however, goes on a date with Kendra and gets called shot as he has a vibe which means leaves Kendra a little stunned by how enthusiastic he was about the date and then all of a sudden has to go. Patty, on the other hand, is pushed to one side by Barry because of the fact he is a wheelchair and can’t explain why.
Gorilla Warfare is a good break from the threat of Zoom and quite refreshing for Barry not to have the target on his back. Zoom is mentioned and the threat is kept in the back of your mind, but Caitlin is in trouble with Grodd and also does some very good soul searching by Barry. Barry until now has had one shake in confidence, but it wasn’t a shake of his own confidence it was just not wanting people around this time it was a pure lack of confidence. One thing that is a surprise is that Barry is still not telling Patty that he is The Flash. It is something that this episode could have broken that secret, but he chose not to.
