While after 24 hours now of no Gaming PC and living on just a Chromebook and using the Chromecast as a second monitor, I have to say my day hasn’t been as productive as I had hoped.
This could be due to the fact that I didn’t get to sleep until about 4 this morning and was back up at about 8 because the worry of taking the Power Supply Unit out of my PC. Now you might think that isn’t good being a bit of a techie however I am not really a hardware guy, I tend to like to stick to the software and problem solving. Also electric seems to have the added danger what if this goes bang and gives you a huge shock. All this going through my mind meant a sleep lacking night, so when I got up I got a coffee and cracked on with taking the old power supply out my gaming machine. Now to be honest as soon as I got it I was stood there wondering what the hell am I worrying about?
The rest of the day was watching streams and just generally being in a state of zombie, with a little bit of research into getting a new PSU. For the most part it isn’t too complicated and I have found a few that I like and will probably go with and as I am replacing the PSU I think I will be going for an upgrade to 600W from 550W.
So for this little experiment I am going to be putting off buying the new PSU until the beginning of next week just because I want to see what a difference not having a gaming PC makes, although I have to admit I do miss not being able to jump on a game or two, this could be actually quite good.
The other thing I needed to do today was make a recovery image for my chromebook, and I was suprised to find out that Google have actually changed the command for it. They are now using an App to do it instead of being able to just put in the command chrome://imageburner, which to me is making things a little easier for general users but also making it a bit more bloated because it’s another application to have in your draw. I personally liked the other way of doing it, I think tomorrow’s blog will have to have some media in it because just this text needs breaking up.
While next month this blog or better way of putting this domain is going to be 8 years old. It is quite scary really I bought this in my first year of University it doesn’t seem two minutes ago I was set in that lecture room doing web design. Just thought I would give you guys a quick update, all my master plans have kind of gone up in smoke due to the fact that I need to get myself a new power supply for my PC.
With that in mind my gaming will be going out of the window for at least 4 days which could mean that this blog could see more activity as I plan on giving my Netflix and Now TV subscriptions a hammering as I haven’t of late due to the fact that I have been hammering League of Legends to try to improve. I finished my promotions in Bronze IV so at least I managed to stay in the league I was in and have since managed to climb up to Bronze III so things are looking up. The other thing that I can comment on due to the fact that the only machine I will really have access to is my chromebook and chromecast is the ability to live in the Google eco-system and whether I would recommend it. I have commented on this before but never been completely reliant on it/them because I have always had my gaming machine available to me.
Wish me luck
This is going to be the year of streaming if nothing else. Although I am still yet to get a fit enough internet, but I have been testing to see whether I can get away with streaming anything while I wait for the upgrade to be available.
The test was something like Hearthstone because its slow-moving and to be honest it went really well, so I went on to try League of Legends because that is one of my end goals and the ping wasn’t too bad. I was amazed due to the fact that I have had ping issues without the added strain on my internet connection due to streaming. Although my ping was higher than normal it was stable-ish but it just proves that it’s not necessarily the ping that is the issue its the spikes. The constant up and down has caused some real issues for me and with the new season now upon us I am considering when to play and not. That said though I don’t hold up high ups to get out Bronze this season, however I am going damn sure try. I need to just chill and play the game to try to improve and climb the ladder lately I have been getting increasingly frustrated, with the game so much so I am starting to consider that maybe it’s not the game for me.
As for the blog I want to try and up the content because this place has been rather lackluster of late. See you all on the other-side.
I should really make this like the Queen’s speech every year but don’t think I will be going down that route. All in all I’ve had an awesome day with family as we do every year and had some really awesome gifts such as a new keyboard and mouse which is going to take some getting used to but I just really like the glow backlight on it.
A quick recap, these last few weeks things have been a bit slow due to a sudden lack of energy more to the point I think that I have messed up my sleep pattern too much with the late night watching of Elementary and a few other movies. I plan however to sort this out and start blogging a little more and maybe take a step back from League of Legends, as I’ve started to play Guild Wars 2 again and I am really enjoying it. I was thinking of starting the evil World of Warcraft again and then it dawned on me that I had Guild Wars why not play that instead and wouldn’t cost me any extra. I think that I will try to get a wider range of topics discussed on this blog because narrowing it down to gaming although good has made it harder for me to produce content and although I have enjoyed it I feel it’s a bit limiting. I am not going to limit myself to needing to have completed a game or thought of something new to share with people along those lines.
I think I am going to start bringing back more technology content with also the movie/tv reviews as they seemed to have the most reaction from the Tumblr audience but we don’t want to sell out now.
Anyway if I don’t get around to it have an awesome New Year. Now it is time to find some movie to watch because it is that time of year.
The sentence above seems a little weird with it being that I have more time on my hands than most, but it seems that I am trying to do too many things at once. I want to start blogging again as its something that I really enjoy along with wanting to perform well on League of Legends with the new-found friendship in the game I have found. Along with the huge amount TV I want to catch up on or try.
Having more time to do all these things is a double edge sword because you have that time but some times it just isn’t structured, and you don’t feel the need to structure it. However the last couple of weeks I just haven’t achieved much, in the way that I would like. With all that said I would like to say that my League of Legends game play is improving I have managed to get myself with a little bit of help up to Bronze II however I have split back down into Bronze III due to a bad day yesterday.
I think the first port of call for me is to start on Elementary because I really liked the Sherlock series made by the BBC and would like to see the American tint on classic.
I am getting good at this with the blog. Having a few personal issues and getting more focused into League of Legends in the pre-season is a huge part of that. It isn’t a reflection on the changes that were made but more to the point I have been working with somebody in the game, they are a Platinum Player and helping me develop as a player.
It seems strange to explain because I have a group of friends where one likes League and the others aren’t into the game, and every time I try to explain why I play League but never get it right. It’s hard to put it into words or explain to a none League player but I think although the community seems quite aggressive while in a game, there are the few that are helpful. The problem is it’s a high pressure environment that everyone wants to win and when one or more players are making mistakes your sat their annoyed and it affects the rest of the game. The thing about this game for the frustration there is also that feeling of achievement when you win, when you meet that new person on their that is will help and you develop and improve as a player at way the stuff you have to deal with.
I am going to try to get back into blogging though because reading a few of my friends and the fact that one has actually become a guest blogger for want of a better word, has really encouraged me start again. The main reason is that it logs my progress in certain things and lets me reflect on things more, along with maybe helping others in some way. I want to find a happy medium between personal blog entries and game/technology entries with of cause the odd movie review thrown in. As for the other blog I started for a writing project, although a great idea I need to sit down and work out which direction I want it to go in and how I want to proceed with it.
So there is where I am at, now to gaming because I promised/told someone I would start a game as soon as possible. Although I do have a review to write so who knows but time to knuckle down.
I have bit the bullet and used Blogger to launch my new project, you can find it here: http://stueeysstories.blogspot.co.uk/
To be honest I was amazed that it said that I had 49 views in the first day which was for me huge, because I hadn’t shared it out anywhere admitted some of that could have been me but I definitely didn’t load the page 49 times. However since launching the second part of the story I have noticed the growth isn’t in the same relation, so whether it is just Google submitting it to different crawlers I don’t know.
As for the actual writing its going quite well but there are a few features I wish Blogger had a word counting facilities. The story development is also going well, but having read some more articles on-line I may have been going at it slightly wrong. The best way to attack a fictional blog is to have arks and although that is possible with the way I have started writing my first story I can’t see it being able to make the arks so we will have to see if I can adapt the start.
After yesterday’s blog post, I have decided to start writing a fictional blog. So the first thing I did was Google the subject and it accord to me that this blog would probably be the wrong place for it. The problem is although this blog has been my home on and off for 7 years I really need a clean start for the new projected.
This blog would still be kept going recording my progress and for any other personal stuff because this is what this blog is all about but I will be moving my fictional work or starting it on another blog because I don’t want the content broken up. The problem I have is that I don’t particularly want to start hosting a new blog just in case the project kind of goes south which in all honesty knowing me it will. Not because I c an’t keep a project going it is more because I am not the most creative of people which means that this project could be quite difficult.
The biggest problem I have also have is two main ideas of where I want to host the blog, while three really and that is Blogger, WordPress and Tumblr. The winning ones at the moment is blogger and Tumblr because its different Tumblr would give me the access to an already established network and have the ability to have my content shared on other blogs. Blogger is also in the running because I have used it in the past, and never really had a problem with it. Although these are shadowed by the fact that WordPress has a better grammar checker in my opinion which is a huge thing for me.
However I just want something different for the time being and for that reason I have a feeling Blogger is going to win. Apart from the technical side of things which is more ideas going through my head. The content and the creative side of things quite a few sites suggested taking an existing story so you already have a back story. For that I am not 100% I am watching so many TV Shows at the moment not one stands out for use in this situation, but for me this was one of the most stand out tips.
A while back I get the inspiration to write a story based on getting really engrossed into Castle. A TV show where a writer ends up working alongside a Detective for inspiration for his novels. I can’t quite put my finger on it but there was just something there.
The TV show just highlighted that you could do something based on real life experiences and turn it into a story, and that is kind of what I did. Although the one I wrote was not based anything that happened to me but it was based on something similar it was a writer that came into contact with something strange, and I didn’t finish writing it. The truth is I really wish I had kept up with that story because for me it was going some where, it had potential but I lost interest in it because I go off on other projects. The reason I brought all this up because the same happened today.
While dog sitting, I was watching the Social Network although I have to admit I have seen it before, I noticed it on PVR and thought I would watch it and for some reason I had an urge to code something. While watching it I thought why not brush up on some programming and start to code something? The truth is it has been so long without any end goal I would be brushing up on my coding skills with no project, plus these days I spend most of my time on the Chromebook for productivity I haven’t looked into code editors on here yet.
So while thing and reflecting on all this I have decided to try to do some writing again because it would be the easier thing to do at the moment for me, not that I am afraid of hard work but I want something that it is easily achievable at the moment and would provide me with some extra content for this site.
