Tales from the Borderlands Episode 4 for me kept the same pace as the others before it with you getting more and more engrossed in the story but other than the huge development at the end, nothing sticks out in my mind.
It could of been because I was playing this episode in some sort of a rush because work or it could, on the other hand, be down to the writing and how well these games are put together, that although I really enjoyed the episode in the series there weren’t really many standout moments for me.
I found it quite funny though the way in which they did the scene leading up to the big trip back to Helos from Pandora, it was done in such away it could of been a reference to most space movies however for me rightly or wrongly it brought to mind Armageddon. Although there was some action in the episode it took a break from the majority of it and concentrated on the story and developing the characters relationships a little. You really did have a wide variety of ways you could unfold the story to a certain degree and although these weren’t huge decisions and story-altering they were when it came to the character development. You could forge greater bonds or destroy them I felt in this episode and for the most part I strengthened them but being in the rush that I was and not quite remember certain decisions in the previous episodes I may have negatively affected one relationship.
The decision that stuck out most for me and could be the one of the biggest factors in the game so far, is the one at the end of the episode and I was quite surprised at it to be honest. It was well worked because it’s not a cliffhanger in the traditional sense because it’s a definitive answer. The question now becomes what happens now that, that decision has been made, this character now holds all the keys by the looks of things but as your telling the story being held captive, you know that it didn’t all end well.
Overall I would give this episode a 7/10 it isn’t for me as good as the previous ones because of the lack of standout moments however I don’t believe that it worthy of anything less because the story is so well put together and the sheer amount of enjoyment I got out of following this story with very little background knowledge of the universe.
Tales from Borderlands Episode 3 just keeps the series going and, to be honest, I am not being let down by Telltale at all. After a slow start, each episode just engages me more and the need or want to play more gets greater and greater. I think it’s more to do with the genre, but the story just holds you there.
Tales from Borderlands Episode 3 really did keep up the pace where the action was concerned and even had me failing multiple times where the controls and combat are concerned. I think its to do with how slow the controls can be it lulls you into a false sense of security because you know that for the most part you just have to pick a decision on dialogue. Then all of a sudden you have to be quicker in order to fire a weapon or defend yourself.
The story developing and know your building on relationships with each of the main characters, but what amazes me is the way in which the comedy remains in quite bleak circumstances. This episode they continue to have their backs against the wall with more of Fiona’s past being the biggest of obstacle in this episode, that being said these new villains or forces against you are now becoming everyone’s problem. The only downside to this episode for me is that the decisions you make don’t seem to have as much of impact as they did in episode 2 in my opinion.
The relationships that seemed to be budding is the Gortys and Loader Bot. You are also left wondering whether there is something button Rhys and Sasha, as the connection between Rhys and Fiona seems to have simmered down a little.
Overall I would give this episode of Tales from the Borderlands an 8/10 because although the decisions don’t seem to have as big of an impact of the story in this episode as episode 2, the comedy and action scenes were second to none I really enjoyed this episode and I am really looking forward to the next episode.
Tales from the Borderlands Episode 2 continues on from Episode 1 as you’d expect, but I have to say it seemed to fix some of the issues that I had with the series right out of the gate. One of the biggest problems I had with Episode 1 was the fact that the main character I just didn’t connect with. The story at that point was showing the main characters Rhys and Vaughn to actually be on the evil side of the game which I have no problem with but with a game like this you want to have empathy for the characters that you are playing and this was fixed in Episode 2 for me.
The main reason for this for me was the way in which they actually used the villains of the story for want of a better word. The impact that Hugo Vasquez was huge because it gave you a villain and made Rhys more of a likeable character because you can now see the proper battle lines drawn. On the other side, now you see Fiona’s past catching up with her and that adds another dynamic to the story because now both sides of the universe are actually having the same issues. Rhys, for example, is from Hyperion the evil within the world as they have kept people in Pandora down and destroyed it from what I can understand. Fiona is a from Pandora and a Con Artist, but she is just trying to survive. You see Rhys in another way during this episode he might be part of the higher power, but realistically he is doing the same just trying to survive just in a different set of circumstances.
The action in this episode kept up the pace of the first episode but somehow managed to add the depth to character more than what the first episode did. The character development was huge for me and I felt that the decisions that I made in this episode had a greater impact to the story and my characters lives. Overall I would give this episode a strong 8/10. It’s made huge strides to make me become more engulfed in the series.
Tales from the Borderlands is a game from Telltale that is based on the games by 2k called Borderlands obviously but, to be honest, I don’t know much about the series but as many of you know if you follow the blog I am a huge fan of the Telltale series really enjoying The Walking Dead and Wolf Among Us.
Hyped by the fact that this is another Telltale game I had to pick it up even with my lack of knowledge of the universe and do a lets play. The biggest problem I seem to have with the series I don’t feel quite as close to the characters as I have with other series. Whether this will change as times goes on I really can’t tell you however because it’s not so much a survival or investigation story it doesn’t seem to instantly pull you in like the others did. I think that it has more to do with the emotional connection and empathy with the characters more than anything and in this episode the main characters do seem to be on the side of evil.
That said though I did feel the story was quite well told as you come to expect from Telltale and that unlike other Telltale games you were thrown straight into the action to more extent. The combat seems to be higher on the agenda in this game which is true to the original game and I think that is what Telltale does so well adjusting even the most action pack game or story into a story driven game.
Overall I really enjoyed the episode and I will be carrying on with series but I do have to say that it wasn’t the strongest opening episode that they have put together. I would give this episode a 6/10 just because it has intrigued me to want to follow on the story, but it has completely hooked me in.
Esports is something that none of you would be very surprised really interests me because it does show how things can evolve. Now the older generation not wanting to stereotype anyone but they might not get this because to them a sport is not a video game it’s something that your out training for and has a physical element to it. However to those people I want to just point out probably one of the most popular Esport at the moment League of Legends the pros play the game for 8 hours or more to get to where they are. If people are investing that amount of time and effort into the game to improve how is it not a sport? Doesn’t it show that it could be considered a sport like the more traditional ones?
With that rant over the real reason for posting was Rocket Leagues first final in the competitive scene of Esports and throwing its hat into the ring. This for me is huge because I will admit though new to the Esports scene probably really getting invested into Esports Season 3 of League of Legends. Not really knowing much about it and like the above people not considering gaming a sport until I’d seen just how competitive and effort that players had put into the game. I know that League of Legends isn’t the first to start Esports you had Starcraft, World of Warcaft, Counter Strike and Eve (just a few games that sprung to mind could be more) putting together tournaments but League of Legends just seem to push those little tournaments that bit further.
Rocket League addition to this list however is huge for me because it’s the first game since knowing about Esports that has really been a new game and thrown its name into the hat. Only being officially released in July of this year it has had a month and already they are holding events and producing grand finals. Not that I will say they should take away from traditional sports but I think that it awesome that society looks like its changing and the time and dedication of gamers can actually be rewarded other than that feeling of completing a game. If you’ve got that competitive edges Esports gives you that outlet. Of which you can see in me with the way I keep going back to League of Legends.
League of Legends is the dominating game in the Esports scene as said but its good to see Rocket League added to that because it is bringing the tradition game into Esport world. As it is football (soccer) based game and if i am honest although Fifa has the capacity to be an Esport I haven’t really seen much about it if it is.
How do you feel about Esports? Which is your favorite let me know if a comment below.

For years now I had always had this idea of streaming because I do enjoy watching streams and I also enjoy playing games if you haven’t already guessed. While due to geographic location streaming really isn’t/wasn’t an option for me because of the state of our internet speed. While recently with the purchase of a PS4 and also an upgrade in internet speed (still not quite faster enough being 17 meg up 1 meg down) however good enough for a low quality stream I thought I’d give it ago.
Although I understood, that you’d get lost in the amount of content YouTube has and you’d really have to be unique in order to make a success of that side of things I did think that due to the way in which streaming works you wouldn’t have to be so unique. The reason for this logic is or was because it’s live and you could be the only one playing that game at the time you’d get the viewers that way. The other thing is the language thing if you’re the only one playing in people’s native language you’d get the viewer. Bare in mind now I had streamed The Walking Dead off the PC and ended up finding that I did get the odd visitor without even making it public knowledge.
This time however it seems a little harder so maybe it’s the game that I am playing I am not sure, at the moments the games I have streamed are The Witcher 3 and Rocket League properly and found it, in most cases a very lonely place to be. That said I know that I haven’t put enough work into the stream to really push for viewers and I know that I probably won’t because the quality of the stream however what I am going to try to do is stream a few hours a day. The reason for this I want to see if I can get viewers this way, so that when the option of fibre comes along I can make a more informed decision whether or not we really need it. Due to the fact that with the upgrade to 17 meg that is enough download for me to be honest and I would only be getting the fibre really for the extra upload and that would give me higher quality streams.
So who knows this is a bit of a rant and waffle but that’s where I am up to with my online presence and maybe even see you at http://twitch.tv/totalreach
Rocket League has left me stomped I am really not sure what to say about this game as on paper this game really shouldn’t be my thing. Anyone that knows me knows I have no special awareness and probably one of the worst reaction speeds ever but I really do enjoy this game.
The major factor to the success of Rocket League between myself and friends that are playing it is that it was free for PS Plus members this month and in meant that although not huge sports fans, and definitely not football fans we picked up this game just to give it ago as it was getting a lot of hype in the gaming world as the streamers we watch and other community were saying how much fun it was and we just had to try it from that point there was no looking back. I have to admit I was the first to pick it up and was wondering if it was really the type of game for the guys and when they started playing it, it has become our go to game in the evenings for a bit of Co-Op.
The graphics themselves aren’t spectacular but then they aren’t terrible either and the premises is simple you get to do what the Top Gear team did in real life but virtually and that is to run around playing football in cars. I wouldn’t like to say we are great at the game well I wouldn’t even say we were good, but fun has been had by all even when everything is going wrong and we are bumping into each other, tempers on a high and we are still having fun. This game does have the potential to ruin friendships but when games only last 5 minutes who really cares if we are 8-0 down hey? Well if I’m honest we probably would worry a little more if we were playing ranked but we haven’t actually ventured that far.
Multiplayer is the driving factor for this game but don’t be worried if you haven’t got anyone to play with there is a season and offline mode where you can change the skill level of the AI. Although I haven’t spent a lot of time in this game mode, I have no doubt it’s no different to the Multiplayer online.
I would say that if you want a competitive while fun game to play that you can have a laugh with friends this is the game for you. It has an arcade feel to the game which is rare these days but I could see this game in an arcade machine if people would do an adaptation for it. I would give this a 10/10 just because I haven’t had a game where I haven’t laughed or enjoyed the match and if it can get non sports people interested when it’s based on a sport it must be doing something right.
Have you enjoyed Rocket League what’s your thoughts on the game let me know in the comments below.
Batman Arkham Knight the final installment of the Arkham Series by Rock Steady and to be honest I am very sad to seem them go because even in the wake of dreadful PC Ports they still do an amazing job with the game.
If any of you follow this blog you will actually know that this game actually pushed me towards a console due to the fact that my PC is starting to struggle slightly when it comes to running the latest games for long periods of time due to heat and stress issues. Seems strange coming from because I wouldn’t call myself a true gamer as for recent years I have picked some games as you’ve seen on this blog but for the most part I spend my gaming time playing MOBA’s and MMO’s (Not saying these aren’t games and you’re not worthy of the gamer tag if you play only these but I trying to say I have led quite a sheltered gaming life.)
Right off the bat I had a decision to make, to make the game easy or not and although I had played all of the Batman games in this series before I have to say due to the fact I was on a new platform I felt the need to go on easy. Purely because it was the only game and first game I had played on PlayStation 4 and I am used to using an Xbox controller and although there isn’t a lot of difference between the too there was enough for me and I wanted to set the game and console to be a positive experience.
Now onto the game finally with my previous experiences with the series I have to admit I was expecting huge things especially when it came to the graphics because they are always well put together and this was no different I was blown away by the detail of the game. The story for me also was really good, not knowing much about Batman other than what is in mainstream for example the Dark Knight Trilogy there are quite a few twists and turns and even a friend that knows more about the Universe said that he was on sure to the identity of the Arkham Knight.
The major thing for me was how well they put together the gameplay. It is true that you can just follow the storyline like any other game but the way in which the side missions were handled even I wanted to do them because they their own weight, it didn’t feel like its something cool but didn’t have much to do with your success. All that said though as it stands I haven’t 100% the game yet but do intend to go back and finish off the riddles and a few other bits I haven’t completely finished yet.
There was really only one complaint and that was the controls. The big one being the reverse button not being on a trigger and actually being square just felt a bit odd to me, but that said being as the L2 was battle mode I guess it allowed you to easily swap modes.
In case you all haven’t guessed it I give this game a 10/10 I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to gamers and non gamers a like.
Some of the trickier/best moments I managed to catch on video
The PlayStation purchase was another purchase that I am sat here thinking did a really need it? While like any console or game the answer to that question is No but was it a good purchase that would be the better question? To be honest yes just because of the mess that is the PC release of the new Batman game Arkham Knight. I have really enjoyed the Arkham series and although I have yet to complete Arkhman Orgins because of my PC this game alone has made the console worth it for me.
The major question that I find myself asking is that will this console stay out of the draw which was the fate of the Xbox 360 and the honest answer with that is the jury is still out. The way in which PS Plus and live subscriptions now work will hold help towards that happening because of the free games every month, along with the fact that I now have the games console that some friends have that aren’t just into one person shooters, and if I was honest was the death of the Xbox 360 for me because although I enjoyed Call of Duty I have never been that good at first person shooters and constantly getting killed just really started to get annoyed with it. The type of games that I look forward to now are similar to Batman and The Witcher which could be my next purchase for the PlayStation.
Some of the features that I enjoy about the PlayStation or will are the sharing features, although recently getting an upgrade on my internet streaming is still out of the question or it is but on low quality which isn’t really good enough. That said though you can upload 15 min clips to YouTube, Facebook or Daily Motion which is huge for me, as I want to expand my online presence. The only thing I would like is that you could edit the clips more an add audio from on the PlayStation that said however I do believe it would possible to upload the video privately and then add the audio separately.
The only nagging issue I do have from picking the PlayStation is that everywhere I look it seems the majority of stuff is cheaper on the Xbox One, that said even though I still have friends that are die-hard fans of the Xbox I feel that I will get my enjoyment out of the PlayStation.
This is just a quick post to show the match ups for our league this week and to be honest with the estimates I am not looking good as both of my teams look like they are going to lose. That said though I’m not going to write myself off just yet, due to things happening today I am late posting this and the performance of SK is putting me behind already.
