Sleepers Review

This is a 1996 movie that is staring Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro and Kevin Bacon as the lead rules and although I didn’t know the background behind this movie when picking it you soon got the feeling from the movie that it was based on a true story.  However that is where the controversy lies.

The movie itself starts off with a group of boys that are bought up in the rough part of New York City “Hell Kitchen” where they have a unfortunite accident and end up being put into a correction facility.  Where they are subject to abuse, only to develop into completely different people.  In this case two of which end up taking a life of crime and the other two making a life in journalism and law, the two criminals stumble on a guard one night that looked after them and they go to seek revenge.

While watching this movie you can’t help but feel that it is really quite good and it has to be said it’s not the best performances by De Niro or Brad Pitt however the stars of the movie are the lead children they really do make the movie come alive.

The controversy with this movie is that it is based on a book and the author says that it is based on what happened to him and his friends, however the there is no record of the court cases from happening.  Regardless of these issues I think this movie is well worth a watch it kept me engrossed from beginning to end.

I give this movie a 8/10

Let me know what you think if you’ve seen it. Do you think it’s based on really events?
